Occasionally a group will release an updated version of the same episode. This usually happens to fix an error in encoding or translation, but can also be done to standardise the encoding of earlier episodes in a series with that of later ones, to add missing material, or to replace a poor-quality source when a higher-quality source becomes available.
When such a file (known on AniDB as a v2, v3, etc.) is released, the files it replaces are marked as 'deprecated'. While there may not necessarily be anything wrong with them, there exists a better version. If there is something wrong with the encoding of the file, its quality will be set to 'corrupted'.

Criteria for marking file deprecated
File will be marked deprecated if it meets any of the following criteria:
* the episode have 50 or more users and the file has 3 or less and is not marked as file with verified CRC.
* the file is marked as file with invalid CRC.
* the quality of the file is set to low or worse.
* another file by the same group and with the same version exists and is marked as file with verified CRC, while this file is not (this more or less implies that this file has a invalid CRC after all).
* another file by the same group and with a newer version exists and is marked as file with verified CRC.

Also, even if file is marked as deprecated, it will not be hidden if it is any of those:
* file in mylist.
