Occasionally a group will release an updated version of the same episode. This usually happens to fix an error in encoding or translation, but can also be done to standardise the encoding of earlier episodes in a series with that of later ones, to add missing material, or to replace a poor-quality source when a higher-quality source becomes available. | |||
When such a file (known on AniDB as a v2, v3, etc.) is released, the files it replaces are marked as 'deprecated'. While there may not necessarily be anything wrong with them, there exists a better version. If there is something wrong with the encoding of the file, its quality will be set to 'corrupted'. | |||
