Groupentries:Status

From AniDB
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Groupstatus displays information about the current state of a release. Group release comments, such as sources for subtitles and raws, are also stored here.
This information is displayed in the groupinfobox on every anime entry and in the Groups page for every listed group in AniDB.

Note This feature doesn't have to be 100% correct as its data is generated by AniDB automatically for most parts and is very dependent on the users. This means if users didn't add all files a group released it won't show the "true" status.
Please note that the states are not updated in real time. See: Routine maintenance

Possible States

(assuming all files released by the group got added to AniDB)

  • complete
The group released at least one file for every episode for a specific anime in AniDB.
  • finished
The group released at least one file for the last episode of an anime, but has skipped at least one regular episode completely.
  • ongoing
The group hasn't finished/completed this series yet. The release is still ongoing.
  • stalled
The group hasn't released a file for this series for at least two months.
  • specials only
The group released only special episodes, but none of the regular episodes.
  • dropped
The group has officially abandoned this project or the group does not exist anymore. This is the only state that should be set manually.
  • N/A / unknown (not used?)
The state of this release is currently unknown. This should generally be changed automatically to one of the other states within 24h. As of October 2018, it is unknown if this state even used anymore, since state updates happen automatically when files are added independently of the routine maintenance.
Note Ongoing, stalled, finished, specials only and complete are automatically generated states! They're usually not set manually.
Note For movies where there are releases recorded as multi-part episode entries (such as Princess Mononoke or Hanamonogatari), state "complete" will be shown as long as a group has released at least one file, regardless of if that file is a "part x" file or the "complete" file. This is NOT a bug, and this will not be changed.
Note When requesting an old release to be set to dropped, try to first make sure that all of the files that group released have been added to the database. A release that was completed by the group but was not completely added should not be set to dropped!

How it works

ongoing to stalled

AniDB only check for the highest added file for an episode by a group to set states. A timestamp gets set for this episode and if a higher episode doesn't get released in a defined timeframe it gets set stalled. Adding lower episodes won't change the timestamp.

ongoing/stalled to finished/completed

A release will get considered complete/finished by AniDB if at least a file for the last ep gets added. AniDB compares the highest file with the total ep count set for the anime. If those match it's finished. If a group even released a file for every episode of this anime it's complete

dropped/stalled to ongoing

This is identical to ongoing/stalled to finished/completed. Once an episode with a higher number than the one with the timestamp gets added it gets updated to another state.

ongoing/stalled to dropped

This process is manual! Set accordingly on the anime or groupages

Animegroup Release Note Comments

Step 1: click on the Animegroup comment edit button to edit the release notes.
Step 2: enter the release notes in the "Note" field. Provide a link to the source of the information in the "Comment for Mod" field.
Note If there are any uncertainties, such as examples not covered below, please consult CDB-Man for clarification.

The Animegroup release note comments are used to provide information on a group's particular release of a given anime. The most common information here would be credit/attribution for original sources, such as if the subtitles are from another group's work, or if a specific group's raws were used.

Note Generally, we don't care to track which encoding staff member in the group did the encode. If the encode was done by a different group though however, that might be something we track.

How to Add Animegroup Release Note Comments

The animegroup release note comments can be edited directly from the anime page.

Step 1: click on the Animegroup comment edit button on the right hand side of the anime page to edit the release notes. (see screenshot 1)
Step 2: enter the release notes in the "Note" field. Provide a link to the source of the information in the "Comment for Mod" field. A valid source could include a link to a fansub blog, a torrent description, etc. Provide an explanation to the mod if the note note is not self explanatory. (see screenshot 2)

Animegroup Release Note Comment Examples

General Rules and Definitions

Definitions:

  • Subs: citation for the origin of subtitle track(s).
  • Raws: citation for the origin of BOTH video and audio track(s).
  • Video and Audio: citation for the origin of video and audio track(s), where doing so would result in a cleaner note than by using Raws.
  • Source: citation for the origin of BOTH subs AND raws.
    • In cases where the release is actually untouched BD/DVD release, append (remux) or (remuxed).
    • In cases where tracks were reordered, their names renamed and/or removed, append (repacked).

Preferences:

  • In general, lean on simplicity when writing release notes. Crediting notes with explicit credits vs exception credits are both acceptable. Illustrative examples of both are below:
    • Explicit credit: state everything that is used in an explicit fashion. For example: Source: R1 DVD (video, JP audio, EN audio, EN subs), R1 ES DVD (ES subs)
    • Exception credit: state the exception to what is the commonly used source. For example: Source: R1 DVD, R1 ES DVD (ES subs)
  • Use "subs" instead of the full form "subtitles" in all descriptions.

Common Cases

Below is a non-exhaustive list of common release notes, and how they should be formatted.

-- Case 1
Subs: [UTW]
> The subtitles were taken directly from UTW's release, with little to no modification.
-- Case 2
Subs: US DVD
Subs: US BD
> Subs from the North American English release were taken (commonly referred to as R1), with little to no modification.
> Generally, this should not receive square brackets [], as "US DVD" / "US BD" is not a group.
-- Case 3
Raws: [Zero-Raws]
> The raws from [Zero-Raws] were used for the video and audio.
-- Case 4
Subs: Mix of [Hiryuu] and [FFF] (edited), [Hiryuu] (typesetting and karaoke)
The subs are an edit based off of two sources, but typesetting and kfx were borrowed from only one source.
-- Case 5
Subs: [AnimeMangaTR] (translation of Turkish fansub)
> The Turksish subs from [AnimeMangaTR] were used as the base, from which the English subs were translated.
-- Case 6
Source: [Coalgirls] (ordered chapters and segment linking removed)
> The group took Coalgirls' segment linked ordered chapter release, and merged all the files back together.
-- Case 7
Subs: Crunchyroll (heavily edited, restyled, typeset)
> Note that "Crunchyroll" is spelled with a lowercase R; "CrunchyRoll" is incorrect.
> Similar to "R1", Crunchyroll isn't a "group" in the classic sense, so no square brackets as well.
-- Case 8
Subs: US DVD (edited, retimed). Raws: [Zero-Raws]
Subs: US BD (edited, retimed). Raws: [Zero-Raws]
Subs: [UTW] (track 1, edited, retimed), [FroZen] (track 2, restyled, with [UTW] typesetting), [UTW] (track 3, signs). Raws: JP BD, US BD (EN audio)
> Common examples of multiple sources being used, with modifications.
-- Case 9
Source: [FFF], [Furyblade] (EN audio)
> [Dragon-Releases] used [FFF] as the base release, and added dual audio by taking the EN audio track from [Furyblade]. No other modifications were made, except for some necessary re-timing when borrowing tracks. No need to spell out the explicit Subs and Raws info when the only material change is the addition of an EN audio track to an otherwise unmodified base release.
-- Case 10
Subs: [Doki] (modified)
> The group [Tsundere] had used [Doki] subs, which are themselves from [SS-Eclipse]. To illustrate the breakdown:
>> Level 0: [Tsundere]
>> Level 1: [Doki]
>> Level 2: [SS-Eclipse]
> As of 2016-10-29, release notes should only include the information up to the 1st level of separation. If users want to find the 2nd level, they should do so themselves.
-- Case 11
Subs: [SallySubs] (episodes, [SallySubs] track #1), [DmonHiro] (specials). Raws: [Sallysubs] (video + JP audio), US BD (EN audio)
> Catar [CTR] used [SallySubs] release as the base for its own. [SallySubs] had 2 tracks, and [CTR] took track #1. [DmonHiro] was used for the specials. English audio was extracted from US BDs.

See here for the original discussion: http://anidb.net/c8274116
-- Case 12
Subs: [Mawaru]. Raws: [Mawaru] (video, 720p JP audio), US BD (EN audio, 1080p JP audio)
> Catar [CTR] used [Mawaru] for all subs and raws, except:
>> US BD was used for EN audio on both 720p and 1080p release
>> US BD was used for JP audio on 1080p release only
-- Case 13
Source: [SubDESU-H] (web stream)
> New releases by [SubDESU-H] are only streamed on their website, and [SubDESU-H] no longer offers their own files for download. Other groups have gone to rip the [SubDESU-H] streams now for sharing.
>> The underlying files are still ripped by [SubDESU-H] from DVD/BD/etc, so the file source should be set as DVD/BD/etc.
>> Optional, but the files themselves could also have a comment such as: "Ripped from [SubDESU-H] web stream"
-- Case 14
Subs: Sentai (modified), original translation (ep S2). Raws: Amazon (www, dehardsubbed using HIDIVE video)
> Link to release: https://anidb.net/ag125711
> The release by [PAS] uses Sentai official subs for everything except episode S2. Episode S2 was not translated by Sentai, so the fansub [PAS] provided their own original translation.
>> In general, we do not self-credit a group in its own release note. However, where reasonable, an exception can be made where self-translation is the exception case. In this release, all but 1 episode used Sentai; [PAS] only translated 1 special not translated by Sentai.
-- Case 15
Subs: [Group] (with honourifics)
> [Group]'s subs did not originally have honourifics, but they were later added to the track by the re-releasing group.
> NOTE: adding a mention of honourifics is not mandatory, and this note can be discarded if warranted on a case-by-case basis.

Attribution of Raws to Various Channel Sources

The following are examples of optional notes that can be used to identify from which channels a raw group is sourcing their caps, when there is only a single release and the source changes mid-release.

Source: MX (ep 1-9), BS11 (ep 10-13)
Source: MX (v1), BS11 (v2)
Source: MX (older files), BS11 (newer files)

See also here for how to report 2+ sources, when there are multiple release and the source has changed for each full release.

Reencodes with Minor/No Modification

-- [Hi10] and [Minitheatre]

The following are common with [Hi10] and [Minitheatre].

Source: [UTW]
> The file is strictly a re-encode of the original [UTW] file.
Source: [UTW] (ep 1-6), [FFF] (ep 7-12)
> The file is a re-encode of both [UTW] files and [FFF] files.
Source: [FFF] (BD), [HorribleSubs] (www)
> Group released both www and BD rips, using different groups' releases as source for each.
-- Other Re-encode Groups

The following are common with other re-encode groups.

Subs: [Senketsu Subs]. Raws: [Zero-Raws] (re-encoded).
> If a re-encode uses multiple sources, then the note becomes similar to a typical release note, except with the "(re-encoded)" part at the end of the "Raws" credit.
<<Anything Deadfish, where Deadfish has multiple versions of files with multiple sources>>
> ... ask CDB-Man or Deth93. Try to note the groups in order of appearance, as well as keep the ep number/range before version number, e.g. (ep 1 v1), (ep 2-3 v2), (ep 4-5, 6 v3-4), etc.

Uncommon and Complex Cases

Below are a few examples of more complex notes, where the attribution can get complex. Please note that when the citations become this complex, there are no strict standards. However, the general formatting of the simpler notes should be followed to the extent possible. The objective is always to maintain readability; if the data is complex enough such that a reasonable departure from the general formatting will result in increased readability, then that can be considered. As mentioned above, in cases of uncertainty, please consult CDB-Man or Deth93 for clarification.

Subs: [Commie] (HDTV), [Coalgirls] (2012 BD release), [deanzel] (2015 BD release)
> [Hi10] had used different sources for each release batch.
Subs: Dialogue by [Node] (US BD, arcs 1-3, restyled, modified) and [Coalgirls] (US BD, arcs 4-5, modified, and PVs); typesetting by [Coalgirls] (based on [Commie])
> [Coalgirls] only has 1 subtitle track, but it is heavily modified with multiple attributions.
Subs: [Steins;Sub] & [BSEnc] (track 1, signs + karaoke, heavily edited), [BSEnc] (track 2, modified [Commie], edited), [Forge] (track 3, modified [Steins;Sub] + [BSEnc] karaoke + [WhyNot] Ep S1, heavily edited), US BD (track 4). Raws: [Mysilu] (1080p video + JP audio), [Philosophy-Raws] (1080p EN audio), [BESnc] (720p video + JP audio), [Forge] (720p EN audio)
> ... a very big mess.
