AniDB used to not be able to associate files with episodes very well. Now it can. But unfortunately there are still some remnants from the old days when it couldn't. Those include multi-episode files as well as split-episode files which we will cover here. Nowadays, we follow the how to add new episodes guideline exclusively.

A split-episode file is an episode, which got cut into at least 2 parts. The files used to be added to the episodes as described by the list below:

Movies & 1 episode OVAs

split in 2 parts
  • ep2: Part 1 of 2
  • ep3: Part 2 of 2
split in 3 parts
  • ep4: Part 1 of 3
  • ep5: Part 2 of 3
  • ep6: Part 3 of 3

TV Series & OVAs

split in 2 parts
  • O1: Episode x (Part 1 of 2)
  • O2: Episode x (Part 2 of 2)
split in 3 parts
  • O1: Episode x (Part 1 of 3)
  • O2: Episode x (Part 2 of 3)
  • O3: Episode x (Part 3 of 3)

and so on...

Note O refers to "Special O (Other)" meaning it was added as a special episode.
