Titles are how you identify an anime - there are many different kinds, both official ones and common ones as well as abbreviations. No anime can have have the exact same title as another. The Official title is listed at the very top of each animeentry, and at the top of the details table next to the image, the rest of the titles are listed as well as what kind of title they are. Anyone can add a title to any anime, with the restriction that if there already is an anime with that exact same title, it won't work. Please use the search function. Only mods and the one who added the anime can remove titles from an anime. If you feel the removal of a title is necessary, but you don't have access to this, please use the Change Requests forum.

Titles

Please check our Kanji & Romaji Guideline for further assistance with this.
AllCinema is a reliable source for this.

Official Japanese Kanji title: 鋼の練金術師

Official Title (English)

Check the official English page if it's licensed.

Example:
Anime title: Hagane no Renkinjutsushi

Meant for other official titles. Can at the moment only take 1 title.

For anything not official, which is widely used.

Example:
Anime title: Hagane no Renkinjutsushi
Synonym: Full Metal Alchemist

Shorttitle

A shortened version of the title.

Example:
Anime title: Hagane no Renkinjutsushi
Shorttitle: FMA

Adding Titles

In order to add a title to an anime, you need to click the "Synonym/Short Title" link at the bottom of an animeentry. This will lead you to the "AddAnimeTitle" page, where you can see (and remove if it was you who added the anime) all the titles that are currently added to the anime, as well as a text field to enter a new title, and a list where you can choose which kind of title it is. If your title contains non-US-ASCII characters, please use the UTF8 to HTML converter to enter those characters.
